BAHTH, Arabic for “research”, is Morocconia’s experimental line. Its aim is to ensure the long-term viability of Moroccan craftsmanship by modernising it: we carry traditional techniques onto new supports, transitioning from folklore to everyday life.

Morocconia?
We are products of our environment. As a Moroccan who grew up on content from the Western world, I set out to mash up the place I’m from, Morocco, with the place that inspires me most, California, one of the epicentres of the West when it comes to street fashion and lifestyle trends. The result is Morocconia, an imaginary country where the two worlds keep intertwining, Moorish aesthetics with Western popular imagery. Craftsmanship sits at its core: most pieces are made in Morocco in small runs by local tailors and artisans, and through BAHTH we carry traditional crafts such as Tazwaqt painting onto new, everyday objects.
مُرُكونيا؟
نحن نتاج بيئتنا. بصفتي مغربياً نشأ على محتوى قادم من العالم الغربي، أردت أن أمزج بين المكان الذي أنحدر منه، المغرب، والمكان الذي يلهمني أكثر من غيره، كاليفورنيا، إحدى بؤر العالم الغربي في موضة الشارع وصيحات أسلوب الحياة. والنتيجة هي مُرُكونيا، بلد متخيَّل يتشابك فيه العالمان باستمرار، فتلتقي الجماليات الأندلسية المغربية بالصور الشعبية الغربية. والحِرفة في صميمه: أغلب القطع تُصنع في المغرب بكميات صغيرة على أيدي خياطين وحرفيين محليين، ومن خلال بحث ننقل حِرفاً تقليدية مثل تزواقت إلى أشياء جديدة من الحياة اليومية.
